If you are reporting something broken, it helps enormously to include the build stamp from the bottom of the Setup screen, and roughly what you were doing at the time.
Getting started
How much history does it need before it is useful?
It is honest with you about this, which is the point.
- Under 3 trips — textbook guidance only, clearly labelled as such. It is not your pattern yet.
- 3 to 14 trips — it shows you your nearest matching past days, with the estimate flagged as thin.
- 15 trips and up — it re-weights itself around what actually matters at your marks. This is where it becomes yours.
Log the blanks. They count toward that total and they matter more than you would think.
Why do I have to log trips where I caught nothing?
Because without them, every condition looks equally good.
If you only record the mornings you caught fish, the app sees “pushing tide, 6 fish” and has nothing to compare it to. Record the pushing tide that produced nothing and suddenly the difference between the two days means something. A blank is data.
Why does it want my exact position?
Every environmental figure — tide state, wind relative to your beach, swell, sea temperature, light, moon — is calculated from exactly where you were and exactly when. A position that is roughly right produces conditions that are roughly wrong.
Your marks are never published, never sold, and never shared with anyone unless you explicitly choose to.
Using it at the water
Does it work with no signal?
Yes — completely. Logging, GPS and the camera all work with the radio off. Nothing on the fast path waits for a network. Your trips sync when you next have a connection.
This is the single thing the whole app was designed around.
Why does FISH ON log the fish before the camera opens?
Deliberately. Losing a real fish from your record is worse than an extra row you have to tidy up. The fish is banked with its time, size and position first; the camera comes second; naming it comes last.
If you cancel the camera you will find an “Unidentified” entry in the tape — tap it to name it, or remove it.
What is shoreline direction, and why does it keep asking?
It is the compass direction your beach or mark faces. It converts a raw wind reading into something meaningful: wind *onto* your beach or *off* it, which is what actually affects the fishing.
If you do not set it, wind is simply not rated at that mark, and the app says so rather than guessing. A wrong bearing would poison every wind conclusion you ever draw there, so we would rather have nothing than a guess.
Can I correct a trip afterwards?
Yes. Start time, mark, target species, bait and notes are all editable, and changing the mark or its bearing re-reads the conditions for that trip automatically.

What is free?
Your first 10 fish or 30 days, whichever runs out first. No card required.
How do I cancel?
Through Apple or Google, not through us — they handle the billing.
- iPhone/iPad: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → BitePattern → Cancel
- Android: Play Store → profile → Payments and subscriptions → Subscriptions → BitePattern → Cancel
What happens to my records if I stop paying?
You keep them, and you can still export them to CSV. We do not hold your fishing history hostage.
How do I get my data out?
Setup → Download trips as CSV, any time, subscription or not.
How do I delete everything?
See Delete your account.
