Long enough to see whether the app suits how you fish — though not long enough for it to learn your water. That takes a season, and we would rather say so than pretend otherwise.
Why a subscription?
Because the cost does not stop when you buy it. Every time BitePattern reads the tide, swell, pressure and sea temperature for one of your marks, that costs us something — and it keeps costing for as long as you keep fishing.
A once-off price would mean the forecasts eventually had to stop, or the app had to start selling something else: your marks, your data, or your attention. An annual subscription means none of that ever has to happen.
Why annual and not monthly?
Because fishing is seasonal, and a pattern takes a season to find.
A monthly plan would have you paying through the months you do not fish, and would tempt you to leave in the exact window before the app became useful to you. The app needs about fifteen logged trips before it stops quoting textbooks and starts describing your water. Annual matches how the thing actually works.
If you leave
Export everything to CSV, any time, subscribed or not. Your record is yours — years of accumulated knowledge about your own water — and we are not holding it hostage to a renewal.
Subscriptions are billed by Apple or Google, so cancelling is done in your device settings and takes effect at the end of the period you have paid for. Full detail is in the Terms.
